The Singapore Cycling Federation (SCF) and Singapore Sports Hub, a fully integrated sports, entertainment and lifestyle hub in Kallang, will launch their inaugural Festival of Cycling 2022 on 27 February 2022 as part of the Sports Hub Sports Series.

The Festival of Cycling 2022 comprises six cycling events that will be held at the Singapore Sports Hub over the course of the year. The first event which takes place this Sunday, 27 February, will feature three activities: a Kids-Cadet event, Road Criterium and a SCF Cycling Esports Experience.

Kids-Cadet Event
Designed to be a community engagement activity, the Kids-Cadet event is open to age groups of between 4 to 12 years old and will be held at the OCBC Arena Park from 8 am – 1 pm. The bicycles to be used are push bikes or pedal bikes with wheel sizes of not more than 20 inches in outer diameter.
There will be four categories of participants based on the age of the riders:
i) Cadet D (4-6 years)
ii) Cadet C (7-8 years)
iii) Cadet B (9-10 years)
iv) Cadet A (11-12 years)
The Cadet D participants will use push bikes, accompanied by an adult from the same household, while participants of the other three categories will use pedal bikes. The event course consists of one lap of 500 metres and all riders are required to complete 1 practice, 1 seeding, and 1 final lap (in a time trial format). The fastest three riders of each category will qualify for the podium and winner’s medal.
As part of COVID-19 safety procedures and protocols, all participating riders must do Pre-Event Testing (PET) with a self-test kit (ART), 24 hours before the event day. Accompanying adults for Cadet D category must be fully vaccinated and must do a Pre-Event Testing (PET) with a self-test kit (ART), 24 hours before the event day.

Road Criterium Events
A criterium race in cycling is a short race lasting 1-2 hours in a circuit of a few kilometres (km). This will be the first road criterium organised by SCF this year with more races to come in subsequent months.
Tentatively, there will be 11 categories for the race (see table) and the first eight categories (with *) are eligible for points collection in the SCF Road 2022 Series. Points acquired from eligible SCF-sanctioned road events will count towards a National Ranking by the end of the local racing season.
The criterium events will take place at Stadium Drive (North) in five staggered waves with riders cycling in a clockwise direction, covering 1.25km per lap. All participants must be fully vaccinated and must do a Pre-event testing (PET) with a self-test kit (ART) 24 hours before the event day. There will be a podium ceremony for the top three riders after the completion of their respective category.
SCF Cycling Esports experience
Designed for those who want to experience virtual cycling, the SCF Cycling Esports experience will take place at the OCBC Arena (Level 2) and will be a 30-minute ride through the virtual world using the Zwift platform. Participants can be in normal sports or cycling attire and will be required to bring along their own water. They must also complete a self-administered Antigen Rapid Rest (ART) 24 hours prior to the event after successful registration.
“We are pleased to establish a partnership with the Singapore Sports Hub to organise a series of six cycling events in 2022. Our goal is to bring vibrancy to the Sports Hub through more kids and experiential activities, and also racing opportunities for those keen on competitive cycling. Together with our series of OCBC Cycle National Championship events, the Sports Hub Sports Series will allow for cyclists to secure ranking points which will go towards their overall ranking by the end of the 2022 racing season – that is, individual and Top ranked club categories,” said Dr Hing Siong Chen, President of the SCF.
“With the Sports Hub sited strategically along Singapore’s park connector networks, we have witnessed first-hand how cycling has grown in popularity in recent years. Having successfully partnered the Singapore Cycling Federation in various cycling and esports cycling events over the years, we recently signed an agreement with them that will allow us to widen and deepen cycling’s reach into our community in numerous ways including jointly hosting events such as the Festival of Cycling 2022,” said Lionel Yeo, CEO, Singapore Sports Hub.
